This is another sweet and spicy dumpling that we used to offer Ganesha on chaturthi’s.

I learnt this recipe from my mother, it’s very simple and easy to make.

With one simple rice flour dough we can make two recipes that’s is sweet and spicy dumpling.

Ingredients for rice dough

  1. One and half cup rice flour
  2. Two tsp of ghee
  3. Water two and half cup
  4. Salt 1tsp

Ingredients for sweet

One cup fresh shredded coconut

3/4 cup jaggery

Cardamom powder half tsp

Ghee 2tsp

Ingredients for spicy dumpling

  1. One cup fresh shredded coconut
  2. Half tsp mustered seeds
  3. Pinch of hing
  4. Few curry leaves
  5. Half tsp turmeric powder
  6. 3 chopped green chillies
  7. Oil 3tsp
  8. Chopped coriander leaves
  9. Salt as per taste

Method for making rice dough

In a heavy bottom kadai/pan add water, once it’s start boiling add salt and ghee.

Reduce the flame, add rice flour gradually, then quickly begin to stir and mix the rice flour with water.

Stir nicely till the rice flour mix with water, then switch off the flame. Cover the pan for 5min.

After that check the hotness of the dough by touching with fingers, if the dough is warm or slightly hot, then begin to knead the dough, you can even place the dough in plate and knead.

Knead smooth and soft dough, and make a small small balls taking small portion of the dough.

For the measurements I mentioned above, we will get some 25 small balls or even it will vary depending on the size of the balls that we do.

Once the done doing balls, steam all the balls with the help of idly stand or steaming vessel for 15min.

After 15min remove half of the lid.

Method for making sweet dumpling

Melt the jaggery in half cup of water, when jaggery melted add coconut and mix well.

Add ghee and cook untill it starts to thicken, then add cardamom powder mix well, and allow it to cook for 2min. Then switch off the flame.

Allow it to cool for 2min then add the cooked half of ge rice balls to the jaggery paste and mix gently.

That’s it the sweet dumpling is ready.

Method for making spicy dumpling

In a pan add oil once it’s heated, add mustered seeds allow it to crackle, then add hing, curry leaves, green chillies , turmeric powder, shredded coconut and salt mix well for 2min.

Then add another half steamed rice balls, chopped coriander mix well.

That’s it the spicy dumpling is ready.
