One of the healthiest gram that I cook often. It’s healthy, nutritional and makes wholesome meal.
Its easy to make and accompanied with rice or chapati.
The curry/dal that I’m sharing here is totally south Indian style . One of the yummy dal I can say, with less ingredients this curry taste heavenly.
- Soaked green gram 1 and half cup
- 3 to 4 garlic cloves
- One onion chopped
- One tomato chopped
- Curry leaves 5 to 6
- 4 tsp oil
- Mustered seeds 1tsp
- Pinch of Hing
- Two green chillies chopped
- Turmeric powder half tsp
- 1tsp cumin seeds
- 1tsp coriander seeds
- Two tsp coriander leaves chopped
- Salt to taste
Wash and soak green grams for 2hrs, then in pressure cooker add soaked green gram, garlic cloves, 1tsp of salt and 3 and half cups of water, pressure cook with 3 to 4 whistles or untill the green gram is half mashy.
Mean while in pestle and mortar grind coriander seeds and cumin seeds, and keep aside (I recommend to use pestle and mortar for great flavour) .
Now in kadai add 3 tsp of oil, once it’s heated add mustered seeds, hing and curry leaves, fry for 20 seconds then add chopped onion and green chillies fry for 3min or untill the onions translucent.
Once onions are translucent add turmeric powder and chopped tomatoes along with salt, fry for 1min and cover the kadai so that tomatoes become soft. It hardly takes 3 to 4 minutes (make sure the flame in medium).
Once tomatoes are soft add cooked green gram and mix well, now add little bit water not much , then add powdered cumin and coriander seeds, allow to cook the dal for 5 more minutes.
Now switch off the flame and add chopped coriander.
Service hot with rice and ghee.
