South Indian Pudina/Mint Chutney

I prepare some four varieties of pudina Chutney, now I’m sharing here is typical south indian pudina chutney that goes well with idli, vada, dosa or paddu.

The other three versions of pudina chutney will be shared in next post.

All four different types of pudina Chutney taste different because of the ingredients that we used.

Fresh made pudina chutney tastes the best and it is full of Flavours.


  1. Fresh pudina leaves 2 cup
  2. Fresh coconut one cup
  3. Dalia dal 1 tsp
  4. One spoon onion chopped
  5. One tsp oil
  6. One inch ginger
  7. Garlic cloves 2
  8. Tamarind one inch
  9. Green chillies 5 to 6
  10. Water

Ingredients for seasoning

  1. One tsp oil
  2. Half tsp mustered seeds
  3. One dry red chilli


In a small pan add oil once heated add garlic, ginger, onion and pudina fry untill pudina shrinks to half.

Transfer these fried items to blender fallowed by grated coconut, Dalia dal, green chillies, salt and water as per your consistency. Grind until fine paste.

Transfer the Chutney into another bowl, for seasoning in small pan add oil once heated add mustered seeds when crackles add red chilli then pour it into Chutney mix and enjoy.

Tasty tips:

Use shallots instead of normal onion, shallots gives amazing taste to the chutney. If there is no shallots even normal onion will go.
